The Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Co-Operation Organisation and the Institute for Security Studies, in conjunction with Karamoja Agro-Pastoral Development Programme have organized a two day retreat for Members of Parliament from areas affected by cattle rustling and Members of
Parliament on the Defence and Internal Affairs Committees. The meetings is scheduled to take place from 24 -25 July 2008 at Nile Resort Jinja, Uganda under the theme “Exploring Parliamentary Engagement in Combating Cattle Rustling and Advancing Human Securityâ€Â.
The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the Draft Protocol on Prevention, Combating and Eradication of Cattle Rustling in Eastern Africa and also to inform the Parliamentarians of the necessity to have the Protocol signed, ratified and domesticated.
The specific objectives of the meeting are to:
- Introduce the Draft Protocol
- Introduce the Mifugo Project and the implementation process of the Protocol
- Explore potential areas for collaboration in support of the Mifugo Project
- Explore strategies for lobbying in support of the Protocol
