Policing defined by principles: a police general tells her story

This seminar launches an autobiography that provides rare insights into the personal and professional challenges of policing South Africa.

Lt-general (Retired) Sharon Jephta’s thoughtful book draws readers into the world of policing at a time when the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the country underwent profound social and political change.

Her story is not just about the challenge of policing with integrity and excellence in a difficult environment. It also reveals her determined journey, as a coloured woman in a male-dominated organisation, from constable to the second highest rank in the SAPS at the time of her retirement.

Moderator: Gareth Newham, Head, Justice and Violence Prevention, ISS Pretoria
