Chair: Trusha Reddy, Institute for Security Studies. Reddy is a researcher in the Corruption and Governance Programme focusing on Climate Change. She has published
widely on carbon trading and her edited report on the Governance of Carbon Trading Projects
will be released later this year.

- South Africa’s energy crisis in context: Have our policies let us down a dirty path? Prof Patrick Bond, Director: Centre for Civil Society.
Bond, a political economist, is research professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal School
of Development Studies where he directs the Centre for the Civil Society. Patrick’s recent
authored and edited books include Climate Change, Carbon Trading and Civil Society (UKZN
Press and Rozenberg Publishers, 2008.)
- Compromising climate change targets by using dirty energy?
Peet du Plooy, Trade and Investment Advisor (South Africa): WWF.
Du Plooy is a mechanical engineer turned sustainability activist. After six years at Eskom`s R&D
division, he joined WWF`s Trade and Investment Programme in 2004. His passions are environmental
economics, solar power, electric vehicles, "computers" and group decision support.
- Renewable energy: Are we only paying lip service?
Saliem Fakir: Senior lecturer, Department of Public Administration and Planning: University of
Stellenbosch.
Fakir teaches renewable energy policy and financing of renewable energy projects. He is also
associate director of the Center for Renewable and Sustainable Energy at the University of
Stellenbosch.
