Is Botswana's ruling party about to be unseated?

If the BDP loses elections this month, how might that impact one of Africa’s most stable countries?

Batswana go to the polls on 23 October to elect a new government. After 53 years in power, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has been steadily losing support. A major fall-out between President Mokgweetsi Masisi and his predecessor Ian Khama, has cast further doubts on the BDP's chances of retaining power.

This seminar will examine whether Masisi and the BDP can resist the challenge posed by Khama, who has thrown his weight behind a new party aligned with the main opposition coalition. Speakers will consider the impact of a BDP loss on Botswana's politics, economy and even stability.
