Online information operations have become a tool of influence across Africa, especially during election time. In South Africa, research showed that seeding of disinformation began long before voting day, and targeted electoral institutions and the voting process.
This seminar launches a new research report that details South Africa’s exposure and the impact on mis/disinformation on democracy and the information environment.
Lessons for future elections will be outlined and speakers will consider South Africa’s role as G20 president, building on previous member states’ work to ensure information integrity.
