How can local governments raise their crime fighting profile?
To deal with current safety challenges, municipalities need to match their capacity with tasks that can deliver results.
Local governments have a vital role to play in preventing crime and keeping their communities safe. But how far do municipal crime fighting powers extend, and which functions are likely to deliver the greatest safety dividends?
This seminar launches a new report by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in cooperation with the South African Local Government Association (SALGA). Speakers will discuss municipal powers and capacity to enforce by-laws and traffic regulations, and protect infrastructure. They will consider the challenges local governments face in strengthening their role in preventing and responding to crime.
This event is co-hosted by the ISS and SALGA.
