Cyber diplomacy can boost Africa’s digital development

The continent needs to leverage its position as a source and marketplace for future technology.

Cyber diplomacy recognises that digital superpowers and their proxies can project power and influence in cyberspace. African states should scale up their engagement to clearly articulate the continent’s priorities, which include rapid digitisation accompanied by capacity and processes to ensure security and good governance in cyberspace.

This hybrid event will reflect on a recent ISS report on cyber diplomacy and Africa’s digital development. Further details will be provided to those who register.

This is a joint event of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Pretoria.

Panellists:

  • Nathalie Jaarsma, Ambassador at-Large for Security Policy and Cyber, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs
