Cyber attacks: new frontier in Africa’s maritime security

African states need to prepare for the impact of cyber threats on the maritime industry.

New technology is a major boost to shipping and port operations but with it comes the increased threat of cyberattacks. Africa’s future development is anchored in efficient maritime industries. This means it will, like the rest of the world, need to improve cyber security in the maritime domain.

This seminar will discuss the nexus between maritime and cyber security and implications for Africa. Speakers will consider the nature and scope of maritime cyber security threats and what African states should do to protect their critical maritime infrastructure.
