African Union reforms in a fraying global order
Will geopolitical headwinds affect African Peace and Security Architecture reform and how the AU confronts insecurity?
Date: 2026-02-04
Time: 09:30 to 11:30
Venue: Skylight Hotel (New building), Addis Ababa and online via Zoom
As leaders prepare for the 39th African Union (AU) summit in February, the continent faces intensifying conflict, geopolitical fragmentation and a weakened multilateral world order. The Institute for Security Studies’ (ISS) 10th pre-AU summit seminar will assess how evolving security dynamics, institutional reforms, and global power shifts are shaping AU responses.
Anchored on the review of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), discussions will examine conflict hotspots, unconstitutional changes of government and the AU’s waning financial resources.
This event is co-hosted by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS).
Simultaneous French-English interpretation will be provided at this event.
