Advancing justice, accountability and reform in The Gambia

The core pillars of transitional justice need to be planned and delivered as one mutually reinforcing process.

As The Gambia’s transition shifts from plans to operational delivery, a key priority is ensuring the Special Prosecutor’s Office and Special Tribunal for The Gambia operate alongside reparations, victim engagement and institutional reform as a coordinated, mutually reinforcing ecosystem.

Rather than focusing on challenges, this workshop highlights national momentum while addressing practical operational demands. The programme is designed around four key aspects of transitional justice:

• Panel 1 – From truth to integrated implementation: African lessons and the critical role of coordination and governance
• Panel 2 – Making reparations work: financing, prioritisation and victim-centred delivery
• Panel 3 – Criminal accountability beyond prosecution
• Panel 4 – Integrating accountability and reconciliation: formal, restorative and community-based pathways
  
  

This workshop is co-hosted by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the Ministry of Justice in The Gambia.
