and international perspectives on crime reduction and criminal justice
In October 2012 the Institute for Security Studies` Crime
and Justice Programme will be holding its 3rd annual international
conference on crime and criminal justice.
Over the past two years the conference has provided an
excellent opportunity for researchers, academics, policy makers and
practitioners who have an interest and passion for criminology to meet, network
and share ideas and experiences. The relationships developed during these
conferences have led to productive working relationships that span countries
and a broad range of crime and justice related issues.
The conference also offers an opportunity to showcase current
criminological research and policy initiatives from around the world.
We look forward to welcoming participants and presenters
from the African continent and elsewhere to share their research, innovative
thinking and insights.

PSC Report No 35, June 2012
The
analysis on Egypt sheds light on the future of the third most populous state in
Africa in the light of strained relations among a variety of political parties
in Egypt.
Military interventions and political instability characterise recent developments
in Guinea-Bissau. Post-coup elections have also revealed serious flaws in
attempting to restore democratic order through constitutional provisions in
Guinea-Bissau.
Terrorist groups currently
active in Africa with known links to Al Qaeda are seeking ways to enhance such cooperation.
Two retrospective articles, one examining the Consultative
meeting of the AU PSC and the EU Peace and Security Committee and relations
between the two regional bodies, the other exploring developments concerning the
Constitutional conferences in Somalia, are also part of the report.
Somalie.
