The African Futures & Innovation (AFI) programme at the ISS is seeking an English content/language editor to refine and shape new and revised contributions on the AFI website, and to review existing content.
Services required
The two major components are as follows, with duties/workload as set out below:
- The thematic component includes forecasts and analysis across 19 thematic areas. Around two themes are updated annually.
- The geographic component models prospects for each African country, region, regional economic community, and the World Bank’s country income groups. The geographies are updated/replaced at a maximum rate of one per month. The reports adhere to a standard template where text is linked to a chart.
The editor is responsible for ensuring the logic, quality, structure and creativity of these new/replacement reports on the website, including suggesting additions, cuts and rearrangements of the text. The text is edited offline in Google Docs and then uploaded separately by a contractor.
The editor would also be expected to review existing themes and geographies on the website at a rate of two reports (themes and/or geographies) per month. This is to make any necessary minor edits, working directly in the Content Management System (CMS). Training on the open-access CMS will be provided at the start of the consultancy.
AFI will set monthly priorities for the editor, who will be expected to commit around 2 to 3 days per week to the website, but our work does not follow a standard rhythm from month to month.
Text on the website must be clear, analytically sound, well-structured and avoid an academic or complex writing style. The material should appeal to non-subject matter experts.
Provisional contract timeline
The contract will be for an initial period of three months, after which an extension for the remainder of 2026 could be considered.
Management of the consultancy
The consultant will report to an AFI team member.
Expressions of interest
Individual editors are invited to apply as follows:
- A covering letter that includes a short profile, examples of previous work, a statement of expertise, including 3 contactable references
- A CV (max 3 pages)
- Indication of the consultant's hourly rate and number of hours required for editing, using the AFCFTA and Morocco country report on the AFI website, as examples. List rates for new/revised material and review existing themes and geographies separately.
Email expressions of interest to Rekha Valabh at [email protected] by 2 January 2026.
The ISS values diversity, professional integrity and innovation in the workplace.
