The ISS seeks to appoint an intern based in Cape Town to support its evidence-based policing (EBP) project. The work aims to improve South African policing by promoting the understanding and application of evidence-based practices. The intern will support research, writing, planning, facilitation and communication tasks. The intern will report to a senior researcher.

• A strong desire to improve policing and public safety in South Africa
• A post-graduate degree in a relevant field is preferred (e.g. criminology, social policy, political science, sociology and related areas)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in additional South African languages will be an advantage
• Excellent research, writing and analytical abilities
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and in a proactive manner
• An open-minded and creative approach
• Familiarity with evidence-based practice, programme evaluation, and/or policing will be an advantage

This opportunity is only open to South African citizens or candidates with valid work permits based in South Africa. The internship will last 6 months and offer a monthly stipend.
