The ISS seeks to appoint an intern based in Cape Town to support its Evidence-Based Policing (EBP) project. The work aims to improve South African policing by promoting the understanding and application of evidence-based practices. The intern will support research, writing, planning, facilitation and communication tasks linked to the project’s goals. The intern will report to a senior researcher.

Overview of requirements
- A strong desire to improve policing and public safety in South Africa
- A post-graduate degree in a relevant field is preferred (e.g., criminology, social policy, political science, sociology, and related areas)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in additional South African languages will be an advantage
- Excellent research, writing and analytical abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Can work independently and is proactive
- Is open-minded and creative
- Familiarity with evidence-based practice, programme evaluation, and/or policing will be an advantage
This opportunity is only open to South African citizens or candidates with valid work permits based in South Africa. The internship will last 6 months and offer a monthly stipend.
