The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) invites proposals from qualified communications specialists to provide website and digital content for the Violence Prevention (VP) team and the Violence Prevention Forum (VPF).
The Violence Prevention Forum is a multisectoral platform that brings together researchers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government departments, donors, development partners, and the private sector. Its long-term goal is to ensure that the best knowledge and evidence inform violence prevention efforts in South Africa.
The consultant will support the VP team and the VPF in evaluating and strengthening its digital communication platforms, with a strong focus on telling impactful stories. We seek to appoint a consultant to support this work from 1 February 2026 to 1 June 2027. An average of 10 days a month is anticipated.
Scope of work
- Assessing and maintaining the VP team’s communication platforms
- Developing and overseeing the implementation of the improvement strategy and plan for these platforms
- Creating content to include at least ten multimedia products, including 2–5 minute videos highlighting the work of the VP team, podcasts and other products as agreed with the team
- Attending at least three VP team events, such as VPF meetings, and
- Participating in VP team meetings as required
Required skills and experience
Applicants should have:
- Proven experience in communications and digital content development
- Experience managing website and social media content
- Strong multimedia and video production skills
- Excellent written and visual communication skills
- Familiarity with the work of the VPF will be advantageous
