An update of the DDR process in the DRC with specific focus on the Military

23 October 2009

Presented by the Peace Missions Programme, ISS Pretoria Office

Since the launch of the second phase of the National Programme for Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration, 8,811 FARDC went through the registration process in Kinshasa, and the provinces of Kasai Occidental, Katanga, North Kivu, South Kivu, Maniema, and Orientale. Of these combatants, 3,445 were demobilized, including 347 women, while 5,362 chose to remain in the army. Will the process be completed by December 2009.
