16 August 2007, Addis Ababa
The Direct Conflict Prevention Programme (DCP) of the Institute for Security Studies Addis Ababa office would like to cordially invite you to a public seminar entitled: Sudan – Two Years After the Comprehensive Peace Agreement: The Challenges of Consolidating Peace. The Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed on 9 January 2005 by the Government of the Sudan (GOS) and the Sudan People`s Liberation Movement/Sudan People`s Liberation Army (SPLM/A). The main provisions of the CPA are: the creation of a Government of National Unity as well as a Government of Southern Sudan; South Sudan will exercise the right of self-determination to decide whether to remain in a united Sudan or become independent after a six-year interim period ending in 2011. To what extent has Sudan made use of the opportunity of the signing of the CPA to consolidate peace and democratic governance through sustainable development? Is there a new political and economic dispensation in the country? These are some of the questions that the panelists will address at this seminar.
You are invited to participate in this important discussion. Please forward this invitation to interested colleagues.
