04 Nov 2009: ISS Seminar: Criminal Justice Systems in Africa: Enhancing Human Security
Criminal Justice Systems in Africa: Enhancing Human Security, 4 November
hosted by the African Human Security Initiative Secretariat at the Institute for Security Studies, Nairobi Office
Â
The African Human Security Initiative (AHSI), a network and partnership of several African organizations working on peace and conflict, has been using the opportunity created by the peer review concept to complement the formal NEPAD – Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) process. This was done through reviewing the criminal justice system in five countries identified for peer reviews [Zambia, Tanzania, Benin, Mali and Sierra Leone]. AHSI aims to influence reforms in the criminal justice systems on the continent and this seminar will serve as a dialogue forum for drawing attention to the effects of crime and defective criminal justice systems on the democratisation and development processes on the continent.
