18 Nov 2008: ISS Seminar, Pretoria: A New War in the Democratic Republic of Congo

ISS Seminar: A New War in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Pretoria, 18 November 2008

Presented by the African Security Analysis Programme

The last month has seen an escalation of conflict between Laurent Nkunda’s Congrès National pour la Défense du Peuple (CNDP) and the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC). Laurent Nkunda’s CNDP has launched an offensive against the government army, an army which is still not unified and is credible neither operationally nor as an instrument for restoring the state. If the conflict is not stopped it be reduced to the “somalification” of the country.
