Peace and Security Council Report No 83

This month, the PSC Report focuses on the recent summit in Kigali. We also spoke to AU facilitator Edem Kodjo about prospects for a national dialogue in the DRC.

African leaders meeting in Kigali attempted to find a solution to the conflict in South Sudan.

Thirty states abstained in the final round of voting for a new AU Commission chairperson, resulting in a deadlock. African leaders unanimously accepted a new proposal to make the AU self-funded.

Heads of state reiterated their call for the International Criminal Court to withdraw charges against Sudan’s Omar al-Bashir.

The AU is increasingly concerned about the situation in Libya and wants to start a national dialogue to foster reconciliation.

The AU facilitator in the DRC, Edem Kodjo, tells the PSC Report that everything is ready for a national dialogue to start soon.
