Peace and Security Council Report No 79

The PSC's Guinea-Bissau visit and its intervention in Burundi are featured, and we speak to Fred Gateretse, head of the AU's Early Warning Division.

The Peace and Security Council (PSC) went on a mission to Guinea-Bissau last month. The institutional crisis in Guinea-Bissau is of great concern to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and to the PSC.

The PSC discussed important issues concerning its mission in Somalia at its meeting on 31 March.

The potential for electoral violence in the Republic of Congo and Chad emphasises the need for continent- wide electoral laws.

The visit of the high-level delegation of heads of state to Burundi raises several questions about the role of the PSC in this crisis.

Ambassador Fred Gateretse, head of the Early Warning Division in the AU, talks to the PSC Report about dealing with problems before they turn into full-scale conflicts.
