Peace and Security Council Report No 54

This edition of the Peace and Security Council Report includes a post-election analysis on Madagascar and an open page article on Inter-regional cooperation in resolving the crisis in the Kivus region of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.

The post election analysis follows developments from the first round of Madagascar’s presidential elections in October 2013 through to the second round in December, which also included the country’s legislative elections, and up until the provisional results released by the electoral commission earlier this month.

The open page article about developments in the Kivus region focuses on collaboration between the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) in their efforts to successfully facilitate the negotiation of a peace accord between the DRC and the M23 rebels and the ultimate result in the form of a peace declaration known as the Nairobi Declaration.
