The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) Annual Review won in the publications category at the 2015 PRISM Awards on 19 April. The awards recognise excellence and innovation in communication, and are the most sought-after in Southern Africa’s public relations industry.
The judges noted the use of infographics and photographs along with a high-impact design that produced a ‘credible and sophisticated publication’ that met its objectives.
Now in its 18th year, the PRISMs are organised by the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa. This year there were 213 entries in 37 categories from leading consultancies across the continent. Over 40 judges were selected to adjudicate the entries.
‘Our goal is to inform the public debate on security in Africa in an exciting way that supports the authoritative nature of our work’, says Antoinette Louw, Head of Communication at the ISS. ‘This award is an important achievement that confirms we’re on the right track.’
In 2014, the communication team at the ISS received the organisation’s internal innovation award for transforming the way information and results are disseminated, and supporting staff to meet the new demands. Professional communication is now integrated into all ISS work, and the new approach has shown remarkable results, especially in the digital environment.
The PRISM was awarded jointly to the ISS and Proof Communication Africa, the company contracted to help develop the Annual Review, and a contributor to the success of communication at the ISS.
‘Proof and the ISS worked well as a team to showcase the impact and relevance of the ISS’ work in human security,’ says Proof director Jonathon Rees. ‘This prestigious award is a tribute to the excellent work of the ISS and its commitment to dynamic communication.’
