WORKSHOP: UNDERSTANDING AND REGULATING ARMS BROKERING IN SOUTHERN AFRICA 15-17 March 2004 Date: 2004-03-15 to Invalid date WORKSHOP: UNDERSTANDING AND REGULATING ARMS BROKERING IN SOUTHERN AFRICA 15-17 March 2004 Presented by the ARMS MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME [Chairperson`s Summary - PDF 25kb] [Workshop Report] The Arms Management Programme is organising a workshop on understanding and regulating arms brokering in Southern Africa. The goal of the workshop is to gather concrete recommendations from countries in Africa faced with the challenges of regulating arms brokering that can be taken forward in order to develop a harmonised, African approach to regulating these actors. The need to more stringently control arms brokering is an emerging issue both internationally and in Africa. The Workshop will be held on 15 17 March 2004 in Johannesburg, South Africa. It will bring together 30-40 representatives of governments, subregional and regional organisations in Africa and outside the continent and international experts to identify the scope of arms brokering in Africa, the mechanisms that already exist to regulate brokering and the capacities and resources that are required to implement effective regulations on brokering. The findings from the workshop will be summarized in a report that will be disseminated broadly among policy makers. The working language of the workshop will be English.
