[Presentation - SADC Regional Security]

On 19 January 2006, from 1230-1500 hours, DSP hosted 24 Senior Officers from the JDC and 2 SANDF accompanying officers. The Head of the Visiting Delegation was Brigadier General Weal Bagaein. Amongst the large JDC contingent were also officers from Pakistan and South Korea. The two themes for discussion focussed on:

• A better understanding of the ISS and its activities/funding

• A short brief on the African Security situation with special attention to Southern Africa – SADC.

On hand to provide assistance were colleagues from the ISS African Security Analysis Programme (Mariam Jooma) and ISS Peace Missions Programme (Cecile Aptel-Williamson). The two subject specific presentations in power-point are attached.
