The African Union (AU) has declared 2016 the year of Human Rights in Africa with a focus on the rights of women.
This theme has never been more relevant for the organisation, given the urgent human security challenges on the agenda at its 26th Summit.
This seminar, led by the Institute for Security Studies’ PSC Report, will provide insight and analysis into the key issues on the AU Summit agenda. High on the list is the crisis in Burundi. Based on in-field experience, experts will discuss the escalating crisis and the AU Peace and Security Council’s (PSC’s) landmark vote on the deployment of 5 000 AU troops.
The election of new members of the PSC will also be discussed, as this is the first time there is some real uncertainty over which members will hold these positions.
