Political and security implications of COVID-19 for Ethiopia

The pandemic could have lasting effects on Ethiopia’s social and political stability, and its political transition.

The COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to contain it are expected to have severe and lasting consequences on Ethiopia’s social and political stability, and its political transition. How might COVID-19 affect the already fragile security situation in the country and political liberalisation that started in 2018?

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the Institute for Strategic Affairs (ISA) are jointly hosting this seminar to examine the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on Ethiopia, with a focus on the state of emergency, rule of law, human rights and the political transition.

The seminar will be conducted in Amharic. A seminar on similar issues will be held in English in the coming weeks.
