The Institute for Security Studies and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF) are jointly hosting a conference on Civil Society and Governance in Southern Africa in Pretoria on the 14th and 15th of September, 2006. The purpose of this conference is to bring together approximately 30 researchers, officials and civil society representatives in Southern Africa to compare, analyze and debate the nature of civil society, the current legal and resource environments in which they operate, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges which they confront, and to develop a set of policy recommendations that can assist in strengthening civil society participation in governance in the region.
