Presented by the Peace Missions Programme
Human Rights Watch’s two senior researchers on the Great Lakes region Anneke van Woudenberg (Democratic Republic of Congo) and Carina Tertsakian (Rwanda and Burundi) will address some of the landmark events in terms of human rights in 2010. In a year that has seen increased political repression in the run-up to elections in Burundi and Rwanda, the publication of the controversial UN mapping report and continuing atrocities against civilians in Congo, what are the prospects for democracy and justice in the Great Lakes region?
Speakers:
Anneke van Woudenberg, Senior Researcher, Human Rights Watch (DRC)
Carina Tertsakian, Senior Researcher, Human Rights Watch (Burundi and Rwanda)
