Presented by the Security Sector Governance Programme
With only five years to go to meet the eight Millennium Development Goals by 2015, the recent United Nations Summit on the MDG’s reflected a mixed story of the world’s progress in this regard. Africa’s achievements have been particularly uneven, both between and within countries. South Africa embraced the MDG’s and has aligned their 10 strategic development priority areas to the MDG’s. How is South Africa progressing in achieving the MDG’s? What are the social, economic and political issues that constrain progress and how can this be remedied? This seminar will analyse the Outcomes of the UN MDG Summit and focus on an assessment of South Africa’s prospects and challenges.
Speakers:
Dr Agostinho Zacarias; United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for South Africa.
Prof. Steven Friedman; Director, Centre for the Study of Democracy,?Rhodes University & University of Johannesburg.
