ISS Seminar: Cape Town: Corruption and Governance in the DRC

Presented by the Corruption & Governance Programme, Institute for Security Studies (ISS) Cape Town Office

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is Africa’s treasure chest. It is also a nation that is dealing with the legacy of colonialism, civil war and decades of institutionalised kleptocracy. Weak governance and large-scale corruption pose a profound risk to human security in the DRC and the sub-region. Dr. Muzong Kodi is an authority on governance issues in his country of birth and will assess recent efforts by the DRC government and international partners to tackle systemic corruption.

Dr Kodi is an Associate Fellow in the Africa Programme at Chatham House in London, where his research work focuses on human rights, governance and anti-corruption issues in the DRC. He also coordinates the British-Congo Forum for Chatham House. Dr. Kodi is author of the ISS Monograph Corruption and Governance in the DRC during the Transition Period (2008) published in French and English.
