Recent developments in Zimbabwe highlight the important role for civil society in promoting justice and holding governments to account. Two recent civil society initiatives stand out – the arms shipment from China and the request to SA’s National Prosecuting Authority to investigate torture as a crime against humanity committed in Zimbabwe.
