Getting to Grips with Trafficking: Reflections on Human Trafficking Research in South Africa by Robyn Pharaoh
South Africa, along with many other countries around the world, has committed itself to enacting legislation and putting in place policies to counter human trafficking. Yet very little is known about the prevalence and nature of trafficking within, to and from South Africa. This creates a dangerous situation in which policies may be made and, more importantly, resources allocated, on the basis of what may not be an accurate reflection of the reality of the problem. In this monograph the author presents an objective overview of what we know and what we don’t know about human trafficking in South Africa and suggests the kinds of research which could be undertaken to fill the knowledge gap.
