ISS Briefing Session on the restructuring of the SAPS as it relates to the policing of crimes against women and children
Pretoria, 31 May 2006

By Invitation Only

The South African Police Service has requested the assistance of the Institute for Security Studies in convening a roundtable briefing session on the restructuring of the SAPS as it relates to the policing of crimes against women and children. Media reports in the past two months covering aspects of the restructuring have elicited widespread attention and concern, particularly with regard to the possible impact on the handling of crime against women and children.

The aim of the roundtable is to inform relevant civil society organisations active in the field about the planned restructuring, and the likely implications for the work of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units (FCS). A team from SAPS head office in Pretoria, including the Divisional Commissioner of Career Management, will outline relevant details relating to the restructuring, after which the ISS will facilitate a question and answer session with participants.
