Invitation to Remember Sarah Meek

Invitation to Remember Sarah Meek
ISS Pretoria, 26 October 2007

On 26 October 2006, Sarah Meek tragically passed away in a car accident. Sarah was the Head of Development and editor of the African Security Review at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) at the time.

For several years Sarah also served as the Programme Head of the Arms Management Programme (AMP) at the ISS. During her tenure as Head of AMP, she galvanized a strong working relationship with the international donor community and many international and African organizations working on arms control and disarmament issues. She also served as the consultant to the Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) on the United Nations Register of Conventional Arms.

Sarah made a considerable contribution to the development and professionalisation of the ISS. Her presence, not only within the ISS, but also in the African and international arms control and disarmament communities, is sorely missed.

You are thus cordially invited to an informal commemoration ceremony to honour and remember Sarah’s life and her commitment to promoting human security in Africa. The details are as follows:
