Innovative approaches to countering violent extremism

The event will explore the role of women in countering violent extremism and highlights the work of private sector, government and civil society leaders.

The spread of radicalisation and violent extremism impacts all levels of society across the globe. Countering violent extremism is essential to enabling markets and encouraging investment. Empowering women as leaders in the home and the community is imperative to building resilience at the local level.

The Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) in collaboration with the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) invites you to explore the role of women in countering violent extremism, strategies to strengthen private sector engagement, and innovative approaches to preventing youth from joining extremist organisations.

The GCERF is a public-private partnership and the first global effort to support community-level initiatives to strengthen resilience against violent extremism. In 2015 GCERF will work with governments, civil society and the private sector to support local initiatives in Bangladesh, Mali and Nigeria; including providing resources to local initiatives working to empower women and youth – two sectors prioritised by the African Union and World Economic Forum.

The informal roundtable discussion will highlight the important work of leaders in the private sector, government and civil society.
