Enhancing South African post-conflict development and peacebuilding capacity in Africa
Date: 2013-10-14
Time: 10:30 to 13:30
Venue: Conference Room
, ISS Pretoria
South Africa is increasingly recognised as a key regional player in terms of post-conflict development and peacebuilding on the continent. It now seeks to strengthen and coordinate its engagements through the establishment of the South African Development Partnership Agency (SADPA).
What kinds of considerations should SADPA factor into future policy development and progamming?
This stakeholder meeting, organised by the Conflict Management and Peacebuilding Division at the ISS, was the second of the ‘Enhancing responses to South Africa’s post-conflict development and peacebuilding capacity in Africa’ project. It brought together a range of key stakeholders working on South African post-conflict development and peacebuilding.
Alexander O’Riordan discussed donor engagements in Africa and the implications for SADPA, while Gustavo Barros de Carvalho outlined lessons learned from ACCORD’s work in Burundi and South Sudan.
Amanda Lucey presented research findings of lessons learned from South Africa’s past engagements in Burundi and South Sudan, based on field research carried out in June and August 2013.
Two recently published ISS Policy Briefs were released at the meeting:
Burundi: Missed opportunities for South African post-conflict development and peacebuilding? By Cheryl Hendricks and Amanda Lucey
