The African Conflict Prevention Programme (ACPP) of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) – Addis Ababa Office would like to cordially invite you to a public seminar entitled: Analysis of the 14th Ordinary Summit of the African Union Heads of State and Government.

The seminar follows on the heels of the recently concluded 14th Ordinary Summit of the African Union (AU) Heads of States and Government held in Addis Ababa from January 28 up to February 2, 2010. The seminar will probe into the implications of the various themes discussed and policy decisions reached relating particularly to the Year of Peace and Security in Africa, Unconstitutional Changes of Governments, the elections of new members of the Peace and Security Council, climate change negotiations, the establishment of a fund for African women, coordination of elections’ observation, the International Criminal Court Treaty Review conference and the need for a robust budget for the enhanced performance of the AU Commission. Prominently, the Republic of Malawi was elected to the Presidency of the AU and it will be imperative to get insights into the priorities of the new leadership. The interactive seminar will seek to inform the various stakeholders on the implementation process and details of the aforementioned Summit’s decisions and reports launched.

The ACPP strives to complement the work of the AU member states and the activities of the AU Commission, Peace and Security Council (PSC) and other stakeholders in Addis Ababa with a view to promote human security in Africa. The aim is to stimulate quality discussion and constructive interaction between participants. Panelists will be drawn from the African diplomatic community and the civil society organizations.
