ISS Seminar: President Al-Bashir on Trial? The Legal and Political Implications of the Pending ICC Arrest Warrant for Sudan
Pretoria, 25 February 2009

Indications are that the International Criminal Court (ICC) will soon indict President Al-Bashir of Sudan for War Crimes. This development will have a number of implications for Sudan and Africa. The seminar will address the key legal and political aspects of the pending arrest warrant, including: the legal obligations for state and non-state parties to the Rome Statute stemming from UNSC Resolution 1593; implications for the African Union; the impact on Sudan’s political landscape, specifically the prospects for continued peace with the South and the implementation of the CPA; and the impact on peace and justice processes in the country.
