View on Africa: money is poisoning South Africa’s politics

Will new proposals to regulate political party funding succeed?

There is no regulation of private funding to political parties in South Africa. The African National Congress recently announced a parliamentary process to remedy this defect. But why now? And will regulation tackle the toxic impact that money has on South Africa’s political process?

This View on Africa is presented by Judith February, ISS Consultant. She will discuss current examples of how political influence is being bought and whether proposals for oversight will address the problem.
