View on Africa: key issues for the PSC in 2017

As the African Union summit approaches, this briefing will discuss priorities for the Peace and Security Council.

The African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council’s record in 2016 was mixed, with most crises tackled by the regional economic communities rather than the continental body. As the January AU summit approaches, what priorities should the PSC consider?

This View on Africa will be presented by Dr Yann Bedzigui, a Researcher with the ISS’ Peace and Security Research Programme. He will discuss key issues the PSC should tackle in 2017 like improving its ability to prevent crises and how to kick-start the Peace Fund.
