Kenya's 4 March 2013 poll promises to be politically defining. Embedded in key transitional provisions and organised at six different levels, the poll represents not only Kenya’s most important but arguably most complex election in post-independence history. However, events of the disputed 2007-08 presidential elections have unfortunately raised concerns about the possibility of renewed violence. This seminar aims to identify threats to and opportunities for consolidating Kenya's electoral democracy and stability. It will examine, among other issues, the level of preparedness, key issues informing campaign debates, the role of the International Criminal Court (ICC), the probability of a recurrence of election-related violence and other threats, key constitutional provisions that will be effected after the poll, and possible election and post-election scenarios.
