Does Silencing the Guns have a future beyond 2020?

Given Africa’s many current conflicts, what can be expected from the upcoming special heads of state summit?

African leaders will meet on 6 December to talk about the African Union’s (AU) Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2020 initiative. As leaders prepare for the special summit hosted by South Africa, questions remain about the success of continental efforts to stem conflict and violence.

How has the AU’s master roadmap for silencing the guns fared and what has bedevilled progress? This seminar will provide answers and discuss the upcoming summit in the context of the many conflicts still facing Africa. The future of the Silencing the Guns initiative will also be considered.
