Human trafficking

This section deals with human trafficking, which includes the recruitment, transfer or harbouring of a person by threat, force or abuse, for the purpose of exploitation.

Human smuggling

The section deals with human smuggling: the act of facilitating the illegal entry into a state or area where the person being smuggled is not a national or resident.

Drug trafficking

This section covers drug trafficking: a global illicit trade involving the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale of substances which are subject to drug prohibition laws.  

Arms trafficking

This section includes content on arms trafficking: the unauthorised import, export, acquisition, sale, delivery, movement or transfer of firearms, their parts and components and ammunition from one state to another.

Cybercrime

This section is dedicated to content on cybercrime, which refers to attacks against computer hardware or software and crimes enabled by the Internet.  

IFFs and money laundering

‘Illicit financial flows’ (IFFs) refers to money illegally earned, transferred or used, including the proceeds of crime. Money laundering is the attempt to conceal the identity of illegally obtained proceeds.

Fauna

This section deals with the illicit taking, trading, supplying, selling or trafficking, obtaining or consuming of wildlife and other animals in contravention of national or international laws.

Flora

This section covers the harvesting, transport, processing, buying or selling of plants, including timber and other forest products, in violation of national or sub-national laws.

Mining and extractives

This section deals with illicit mining and extraction activities of non-renewable resources, such as oil, gas and minerals, carried out in violation of national or sub-national laws.

Maritime

Maritime crimes refer to any illegal act committed on the high seas for private ends, against or by a ship or its crew by another ship or aircraft. It includes piracy; armed robbery; kidnapping for ransom; illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; and oil bunkering.

Mafia-style crimes

Mafia-style crimes are acts by criminal groups that use violence, or the threat of violence, to exert control over licit or illicit markets, extract rents or influence local politics or the economy – including extortion, protectionism and assassinations.

Trade and counterfeit goods

This section covers the production or sale of goods and services that are deemed illegal, fake or counterfeit; or the sale of legitimate goods in an illegal manner.

Cross-border smuggling

This section deals with the covert movement of legitimate goods across borders in contravention of existing laws.

Emerging crimes

Emerging crimes refers to new forms of crime, criminal behaviour or the illegal trade in non-traditional commodities, goods or services.
