Call for applications: Strategic Research Centres Network in Central Africa

The Observatory on Organized Crime and Violence in Central Africa – a partnership between the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC), funded by the European Union – is inviting research centres to join its newly forming Regional Research Centres Network.

The network aims to build structured partnerships with universities and policy-oriented research bodies working on organised crime, violent extremism, cross-border security and criminal economies in Central Africa. Both established and emerging research centres are encouraged to apply.

Who can apply?

Eligible institutions must be legally registered research bodies (think tanks, universities, or independent centres) based in or with a sustained presence in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Sudan, or South Sudan. Applicants should have a track record of policy-relevant research in the Observatory's thematic areas, demonstrated stakeholder engagement, and a commitment to gender equality and inclusion in research.

What to submit

Applications should include a completed online application form, proof of institutional affiliation, a list of up to 20 key research outputs, an organisational chart, and a proposed work plan for 2026–2027.
